Application characteristics
Application:
Brush, roller or spray application. For spray application observe the manufacturer's instructions for nozzle size and material pressure. Wear suitable (respiratory) protective equipment. Ensure good ventilation during and after use. Make sure food and cigarettes are placed outside during application and drying. Use only solvent resistant tools.
Underground:
Needs to be clean, dry, and solid and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. Uncertain substrates must be checked with respect to sustainability and suitability for subsequent coatings. If necessary, create a test surface and check adhesion. If necessary, use JONAS Hydro-Haft-& Tiefgrund first. For underground treatment and application VOB, part C, DIN 18363 and the relevant BFS information must be observed.
The treatment / removal of paint coats by grinding, welding, burning etc. may produce dangerous dust and / or vapour. Wear suitable (respiratory) protective equipment, if necessary.
Surface preparation:
The treatment / removal of paint coats by grinding, welding, burning etc. may produce dangerous dust and / or vapour. Wear suitable (respiratory) protective equipment, if necessary.
Surface preparation:
Surfaces with strong contamination, such as greasy layers or after fire damage must be cleaned first in order to secure adhesion of the paint. All substrates can be coated with JONAS Renovierfarbe LH straight away.
Plasters of the mortar groups P I, P II, P II, P IV and P V: remove sintered layers by grinding. Coat with JONAS Renovierfarbe LH without pretreatment.
Concrete: remove any residues from separating agents, for example by steam jet cleaning.
Old dispersion paint coatings, synthetic resin plasters and coated glass fibre wall coverings: strong contaminations must be washed off.
Non-sustainable coatings: such as old distemper or old dispersion paint coats to be completely removed first.
Strong contaminations, grease and other separating substances: wash off with ammonium water or a suitable domestic cleaner.
Coating build-up:
Roller / brush: Ready to use.
Special advice:
JONAS Renovierfarbe LH is based on synthetic resin, therefore highly alkaline substrates and/or top coats are subject to risk of saponification with strong odor.
In case of heavily sooted substrates and / or rough surfaces which should get a recoating with water-based paints (i.e. dispersion paints, dispersion plasters), it needs at least 2 coats with plenty of undiluted JONAS Renovierfarbe LH. The first coat needs at last 16 hours of drying. After the 2nd coat it needs at least 24 hours of drying before recoating with thin layers (i.e. dispersion paints) and at least 48 hours of drying before recoating with thick layers (i.e. plasters) (at a temperature of +20° C and a relative atmospheric humidity of 60 %).
If the kind of staining cannot be identified, we recommend to do a test coating and to check the isolating properties.
When coating sealants, such as acrylate sealants, there is a risk of cracking due to higher elasticity. Depending on the ingredients of the sealants discolouration and gloss differences may occur for the coating.
Spreading rate per coating:
Approx. 140 - 170 ml/m² on smooth underground (if necessary, test on the wall).
Application temperature:
At least 1°C (Degrees Celsius) for air and underground during application and drying.
Drying:
At a temperature of +20° C and a relative atmospheric humidity of 60 %:
can be recoated with itself:
on absorbent substrates after approx. 30 minutes,
on non-absorbent substrates after approx. 2 - 3 hours,
fully dry after 2 - 3 days.
can be recoated with dispersion paint or redecorated after approx. 3 days
High humidity, low temperatures and low air exchange extend the hardening and drying time.
Tinting:
Product can be tinted with max. 3 % of standard oil tinting paints or tinting concentrates (subject to reservation, check suitability first). When adding higher quantities, particles might be seeped out.
Colour accuracy: property conditions have an influence on colour accuracy and the uniformity of colour. The following conditions should be avoided:
a. Irregularly absorbent substrate
b. Different surface humidity in the substrate
c. Patches with different alkalinity and / or ingredients from the substrate
Cleaning of tools:
Clean with white spirit or standard brush cleaner immediately after use

Advice acc. to CLP:
After a drying time of 3 days JONAS Renovierfarbe LH can be recoated with water-based paints without losing its isolation properties. During these 3 days recoating can only be done with JONAS Renovierfarbe LH. In sensitive areas the use of JONAS Iso-Grund or JONAS Iso-Matt Aqua should be preferred.
