INNOVATION IN FACADE PROTECTION

JONAS SILICATE FACADE PAINT WITH AQUASMART-TECHNOLOGY

REVOLUTION IN THE FIELD OF FACADE PAINTS

Silicate paints are often used for facades - they are used for modern buildings as well as listed buildings. There are many reasons for this: classic silicate paints are highly permeable and able to absorb water and release it back into the environment as quickly as possible. In addition to a long service life, they are also resistant to UV rays and other environmental influences, which means that they do not fade as quickly as other paints. As a natural binder that reacts chemically with the mineral substrate, potassium silicate forms a particularly stable bond. This silicification ensures that the paint is firmly bonded to the substrate. Silicate paints are generally free from solvents and plasticizers and are therefore more environmentally friendly than many other facade paints.

Climate change is a growing problem that does not stop at our façades, regardless of the type of paint used. The milder winters and warm, humid summers mean that facades are often damp or in a humid climate and are therefore more susceptible to microbial growth.

A temperate climate with mild temperatures provides optimal conditions for the growth of algae and fungi. The risk is particularly high in shady areas where the sun does not shine regularly and the humidity persists for longer. Algae and fungi can colonize more quickly, especially on north-facing sides or in areas that receive little sunlight, as these microorganisms love moisture and do not need direct sunlight.

Although silicate paints offer a certain degree of protection against microbial growth due to their alkaline properties, they are not completely immune to it. To address this issue, algaecides and fungicides are often added to facade coatings to counteract infestation. These biocides can be harmful to both humans and the environment and have a further disadvantage - these substances degrade over time. As a result, the A&F-equipped facade paint loses this corrective over time, the facade turns green, algae and fungi grow...

Self-cleaning façade coatings also only work on surfaces exposed to rain. In other words, this method does not work on surfaces that are protected by eaves or on the sides facing away from the weather. Their principle of action is a combination of the surface texture of the coating and its hydrophobic, water-repellent properties. The dirt particles are washed away by the rain, so to speak. On surfaces with little rain, under roof overhangs or on the side facing away from the weather or with low rainfall intensity, the self-cleaning effect can be severely limited.

The innovation from Jonas Farben is called JONAS AquaSmart-Technology.

This new silicate facade paint is characterized by 3 properties:

1. classic properties of a silicate paint: In addition to being open to diffusion, silicate paint has a natural fungicidal effect due to its high pH value.

2. optimized surface water management: In the first few months after painting, further protection is built up, which protects the façade in the long term and permanently. While the pH value naturally degrades over time, the intelligent AquaSmart-Technology system takes effect here, i.e. long-lasting protection against algae and fungi is built up.

3. long-lasting protection even in exposed locations: JONAS AquaSmart-Technology has an innovative and intelligent surface water management system. Our premium product also offers a particularly high level of protection in highly exposed locations caused by unfavorable climatic conditions.

JONAS Silikat-Fassadenfarbe with AquaSmart-Technology is characterized by a natural mineral-antistatic surface which, in combination with our new surface technology, offers natural protection against dirt and algae and fungal growth. This means reduced maintenance and works on all 4 sides of the building. The proven technical properties of a classic silicate paint remain unchanged. The paint continues to offer the high opacity and high diffusion capacity expected of silicate paints. It is completely preservative free. This underlines JONAS Farben's commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.

But AquaSmart-Technology can do even more. As added value for the painter, it is not only strong on new mineral substrates, but also does a good job on old mineral coatings. It can even be used perfectly on matt silicone resin and dispersion-bonded old coatings after appropriate remineralization of the substrate. The JONAS Silikat-Fassadenfarbe with AquaSmart-Technology can be tinted in light shades. It sets new standards in facade coating. The combination of innovative technology and the absence of harmful chemicals makes this paint a forward-looking choice for environmentally conscious building owners.
